Inter-Global Automotive "Safari" Offroad Utility Vehicle

Developed in tandem with the Wildcatter, the Safari is a conventionally laid out 4x4 full-size, body on frame utility vehicle, able to carry up to 6 passengers on two full-width bench seats. The basic grade is the S1 trim, adding multiple standard items for the S2 and top-grade S3 trims. S3 models are procured by numerous districts of the BORCON Federation Border Constabulary for frontier patrol and use by security agents of the customs service, Homeland Security, and other agencies that operate in remote areas. Safaris in government service operate with Rodeo jeeps and Wildcatters in both the Federation National Police Force and Armed Forces (Military Police). The Safari has a MIL-SPEC package that is exclusive to the Armed Forces. All Safari models use a standard hybrid fusion-electric drivetrain for the civilian versions. Government and Military Police versions use a more powerful drivetrain with improved auxiliary power capacity in the SSP Package. Some base civilian model Safari S1 units have been procured by the military for rear area and base service vehicles.

Due to the massive expansion of the Federation's regulated transportation network and the explosion of population in growing city centers, large ports and city industrial zones have had to adapt to ever shrinking property zones or limits to the real estate available for the transportation that moves their goods to market. Federation port authorities have been forced to partner with the large national railroads to establish specialized shortlines and belt railways organized to provide freight movement in the more cramped environments found in large cities and expanding seaports.

Specialized "restricted use" rail equipment, including "Jennies" and "Shorties" designed to safely move in the tighter clearances of the rail lines, work these systems, feeding raw materials to the industrial zones and bringing out the nation's goods and equipment to the larger classification yards and transfer yards, where the cargoes are combined and transferred to normal-sized railroad rolling stock and routed to their destinations.

Even standard size road switchers and head-end power sometimes cannot clear the tight tolerances traveled by these shortline rights of way, so the port and belt systems use a few classes of powerful small switchers. Some are adapted from switchers designed for spotting cuts of mainline rail equipment, while others, as shown by the Capitol Beltline Railway equipment, were built especially for the work.

The Inter-Global Automotive "Raptor" muscle car has quickly become one of the most favored purchases by the growing civilian consumer base in GEAR 1. With large-scale deregulation of roadway usage laws and rapid expansions of the national road and supehighway network, civilian travel is easy and welcomed to improve tourism and commerce.

Almost immediately after obtaining a research grant from the military, Inter-Global began research and development into hover vehicles with both military and civilian applications. A team of brilliant inventors came up with a ground effects repeller system that could be powered by a civilian car's micro-fusion powerplant. Several Raptors were acquired for conversion and testing, including a number of government-spec Special Service Police units. Chosen for a very efficient aerodynamic shape, the Raptor did well in static testing with the repeller modifications. After the conversion, SSP units were loaned to a city police service, operated by a two-man team of Inter-Global company pilot (required because some controls were taken from fighter aircraft and fly-by-wire technology) and expert police driver. The EVOC qualified police drivers were intended to become the first driving instructors for the hover vehicles after mass production was slated to begin.

Shown as an example is a Raptor SSP modified as an experimental Raptor Flyer hover vehicle, painted in a standard police service scheme of SSP Off White and SSP Polizei Blue. It is shown landed with ground pads extended, and in flight mode with the repellers in operation. Full capabilities have yet to be fully documented, as the hover cars have been limited to low level testing. Crash survivability testing and limited flight maneuver testing is slated in the next few months.

Experimental AMX10RL (Roues Legere) - LNR Armee de Terre Coloniale, First Spahis Regiment (1er RS)

On the planet Haven, the closest colony to the American GEAR1 enclave is La Nouvelle Republique, founded by French and Francophone European colonists. While their military is comparatively small, they are capable of mounting frontier skirmishes and attacking unprotected homesteaders, wildcat miners and farmers.

Using the small fleet of unarmed AMX10RC wheeled "exploration vehicles" and blueprints in their colony ship database, the colonists have begun to construct their version of the armored reconnaissance and fire support car. The AMX10RL (Roues Legere) is also armed with a 90mm low pressure gun, but with a shorter barrel to save on materials. It fires a caseless round using propellant bags, and can be fitted with a light machinegun. Powered by a micronized fusion battery system, the vehicle has limited range as compared to a microfusion drive as is standard on GEAR1 equipment.

This example, a first production batch unit from the First Spahis Regiment, an elite colonial battalion named from French military history, is colored in a dark jungle pattern of digital camouflage. It is typical of vehicles destroyed or captured by counterattacking GEAR1 border garrison troops during Nouvelle Republique raids on the frontier.
