The IGACo. Vector (Vectra for export) is a compact civilian car, powered by microfusion-electric drives. It is one of the most widely offered motor vehicle in GEAR 1 after deregulation of the national road networks and a widespread law permitting the growth of private vehicle ownership.

The Vector chassis is the basis for six cars, including a car-based small pickup inspired by the historic El Camino. It is a favorite among motorsport enthusiasts for its simplicity to modify for sanctioned motorsport competitions.

Vector SSP (Special Service Police) is the platform of choice for many civil police forces and first responder corps throughout the country. Federation government fleets consider the Vector one of the mainstays when they procure vehicles for their duties.

The Rapid (Rapido for export) is a crossover utility vehicle becoming popular with the citizens of GEAR 1 due to its car-like performance and full-time all-wheel-drive capability. It was developed from its IGACo. stablemate, Vector Touring wagon.

With automotive electro-mechanical and drivetrain features comparable to the Vector (Fusion-Electric hybrid), the Rapid provides efficient operation, space for cargo and room for 5 or 7 passengers, depending on the arrangement. A 3-passenger "Longwagon" version is sold for commercial purposes, such as a light urban delivery vehicle and utility equipment vehicle for police services. Special Service Police (SSP) upgrades are available on the crossover and Longwagon for departments that want additional power and performance.

Originally built for use on mountainous ore lines, the 8,000-horsepower, double-ended Class 8 locomotives were retired from FedTrans service after being upgraded to 10,000-hp with first generation fusion power plants later assembled in the HHF-1 and HHP-2.

Sold to the military, the handful of Class 8's were armed during a border security crisis and used to protect supply trains sent to deliver troops and materiel to frontier outposts being constructed to stiffen security. Nicknamed the Rail Tanks, the Class 8's were very successful heading troop trains until the crisis was eased by the re-garrisoning of the frontier. Class 8's owned by mining companies and being retired for newer GS-70 and HHF-1 locos beefed up the military's supply and were quickly modified to Mark 1 standard. (See "22309 - Front Toward Enemy" the Class 8 credited with the most combat action in the crisis). Troop trains often lashed two Class 8's and unarmed hood units on the point along with another pair providing helper service at the rear (making it possible to reverse direction almost immediately if ambushed). Modified idler flats provided heavy firepower for the train security force, and were positioned throughout the train for coverage.

About 210 units, in three acquisition batches, were eventually placed in service as Rail Tanks, Mark 1. None were lost to enemy action, but 20 had to be scrapped due to excessive damage in action. Unit 22309 in the second batch, was damaged multiple times and remained in service due to the audacity of its permanent crew.

OK, so we had the Mk. 1 RailTank, which isn't the best armed thing in the battlespace... here comes its companion.

Armed with a 105mm gun and two twin 50-cals in RWS mounts, the 6-man Idler Gun Car puts heavy fire support on military trains that need protection while moving.

The NLOS-LS idler car is a short flatcar built up with structural steel armor and 18 removable and reloadable NLOS pallets. At 15 missiles per pallet, and able to fire autonomously or on command from a wired terminal, this car can deliver 270 surface-attack missiles or loiter-to-target smart missiles onto targets in a fair range from the launch point. A small generator on the idler provides longer battery life than the pallets' onboard power supply.

The 910th Light Infantry Regiment "Mountaineers"

Formed in the extremely mountainous Highlands region of GEAR 1, the Mountaineers Regiment is composed of highly-trained soldiers dedicated to fighting and surviving in any mountainous combat zone. Officers and senior noncommissioned leaders' experiences while training in the most inhospitable alpine areas of Planet Haven have quite literally drafted the military's "Vertical Warfare" doctrine by trial and error, often at the cost of Mountaineer lives.

In accordance with GEAR 1 military policy, the 910th Regiment maintains a single Active Duty Brigade Combat Team of combined-arms units for immediate worldwide deployment. As a large Administrative organization in the GEAR 1 forces, they also have a specialized training depot (the Joint Vertical Warfare School, jointly operated with Air Force, Navy and Marine Mountain and Arctic Warfare Training Cadres) and other permanent units which train specifically for mountain combat operations and cold weather survival. The 910th is responsible for training and supporting a selection of Organized Military Reserve (OMR) units as battle reinforcements and fillers in case of war.

The 910th habitually works with the Special Warfare community since many SpecWar operators need to learn extreme survival skills, and Mountaineers of the 910th need to develop small unit battle tactics, special insertion, and unconventional warfare skills, as applied to their AOR. Because of a much closer relationship to the SpecWar community than other units, elements of the Special Active Duty battalions of the 910th have adopted the 16-soldier "A-Team" platoon organization favored by the Army SOF, Navy SEAL and Marine FORREC components of the SpecWar branch. They also operate under a wartime "stay-behind" strategy, where it is their mission to blend into mountainous, inaccessible terrain when under attack by conventional units, survive, train and recruit guerrilla fighters from local civilians living and working in their Area of Operations, and then conduct coordinated rear-area disruption attacks from their operational base.

One classified mission of the 910th is to provide security forces for the GEAR 1 National Redoubt on a roulement basis. The National Redoubt is a special, heavily fortified and armed command and control base hidden in the most inaccessible areas of the Highlands. It is designated for the preservation of the Federation Command Authorities (Civilian and Military) in the event of a catastrophic event that affects the entire Federation, or a devastating attack on Center City that wipes out most of the government's agencies and command structure. The location and existence of the National Redoubt, and a number of other "Project: Bolthole" evacuation sites for preserving the population of GEAR 1, is one of the most closely-guarded secrets of the nation, and entrusted to very small numbers of public and military officials, until such time as the network of emergency-use facilities is needed.

The most powerful single locomotive available under fusion power is the 30,000 horsepower HHF-30X. Delivered so far only in limited numbers, the giant locomotive has been affectionately called The Beast by its crews. It has been adopted on long haul runs and hotshot goods trains by major national and international carriers. It is a good companion to the massive 100-ton Mega Box 94-foot boxcar and container well cars on heavy unit trains.

Fitted like the HHF-1/HHP-2, the HHF-30 has a bunk room for relief crews, and is double-ended for ease of reversing.
