LOL... I get along well with two year olds so I won't be insulted.

Militarized civilian streamlined passenger cars are used for train guard force units all across GEAR1. With a capacity of 60 soldiers total, plus weapons racks and ammunition storage, the car can be locked down and used as a small fortress to protect the train and cargo. It is equipped with microfusion batteries to provide a week of minimal power for lights and the RWS turrets, when the car and guard platoon is "dropped" to fight on its own. Two twin cal-.50 on RWS mounts provide a powerful punch. Passenger windows are replaced with rifle ports and armored panels with ballistic glass vision slits. Most of the skin has light steel, Kevlar and ceramic anti-spalling plates sandwiched together to keep the car's overall weight down.

Military surplus shop truck fitted with Hi-Rail equipment and painted in International Ports Authority "Safety High Viz" colors

Two examples of the self-propelled 3,000 horsepower RFC-1 Rail Fusion-Drive Coach, in CCCRTA and Northern Mines Crew Service colors. Single and multiple-unit RFC-1's operate on remote routes with limited traffic, and in the case of the NOMX units, mining crews are shuttled from major facilities to remote mining camps. RFC-1's can head small consists but are often helped by a small GS-40 type locomotive to move consists longer than 3 cars or if the route is not level.

Back to some troops... being a Navy man, I had to do some pattern figures in NWU Camo...

Navy Master At Arms ratings in NWU camo utilities, armed with SLR Mark 4 DM (with scope) and Standard (w/o scope), chambered in 5.7mm HVC (High Velocity Caseless) - Typical personal rigging shows for ship's security or boarding party duty.

GEAR 1 Ground Forces Division
« Reply #52 on: July 28, 2013, 08:35:18 am »
Ground Forces Division Structure
The Divisional structure of the Army Ground Forces (and Marines) is used when a large weight of military force is applied to a large area of response and significant rear area support is required to enable the combat units to meet their strategic and tactical objectives. Command echelons at Division and above are frequently staffed with a minimum of full-time soldiers during peacetime since the battle doctrine of the Federation is to normally operate with the Brigade Combat Team as the main tactical component.
The Division brings together a larger support structure, commands specialized Brigades and can absorb specialist units, while directing the area-wide operations of a number of self-contained Brigade Combat Teams. Only one Division, the Capital Division, is fully staffed with active-duty soldiers, since it is responsible for the security of the Center City Capital Region and First Military District. Capital Division represents the last line of defense to protect the GEAR 1 government and Kelseyland Palace (The Pink Zone) and foreign diplomatic enclaves (The Green Zone).

Some working ideas...

Based on the LVTP7A1 tracked amphibian, this "Porta Laser" vehicle is intended to be a mobile air defense or ground vehicle killer unit armed with a focused ruby laser emitter on a telescoping turret. With a crew of three, the AAVP7 platform is needed to carry the weight of the bank of microfusion batteries and capacitance array needed to power a long-range laser weapon. The telescoping turret feature allows unobstructed firing when the vehicle is positioned inside tree cover or in hull-down protected earthworks. (Credit for base vehicle/concept TBD when I go hunting through JG et al.)

This LVT 7E5 "Super Track" is a Frankensteined design combining the hull of the LVTP7A1, upper breastworks of the M88A1 Hercules and a very heavy dozer plow. This unit, issued to specialized GEAR 1 Marine units, can be used to recover vehicles stuck in loose beach sand, clear earthen or tactical obstacles, raise foundered small landing craft or tow boats, load or unload cargo from LCU or LCAC onto a beach staging area, and similar tasks. This Super Track is different from the standard LVTR-7A1 in the type of draft gear (A-Frame derrick and winch vs. hydraulic crane arm) and the presence of the heavy dozer plow for stabilizing, digging and breaching. Due to the weight of the added equipment and stowage of various engineer tools or dunnage and bracing for recovery work, and despite the use of the LVTP-7A1 hull design, the Super Track must be delivered from ship to shore on a suitable landing craft. It is not intended to "assault swim" ashore, but can operate in shallow water to perform its work.

Inter Global Automotive "Astra 5000" Heavy Lift High-Mobility Transport - Each heavy vehicle, used for carrying oversized cargoes, recovering heavy combat vehicles and moving large pieces of equipment, have three main driving axles and two powered steering axles. The paired heavy lowboy trailer can also draw power from the Astra micro-fusion power plant and run all five rear axles on a light-duty electric drive motor to provide cross country mobility at slow speeds.

One base model is the standard tractor and the other is the sleeper cab modification for extra long hauling.

GEAR 1 Ground Forces

The Stryker Cavalry Troop is outfitted and organized to conduct reconnaissance, force screening and security actions across a wide area. Three troops are assigned to each Recon, Surveillance and Target Acquisition Cavalry Squadron of the Brigade Combat Team. It can break into a mix of sections in order to screen friendly movements, locate, engage and pin down enemy forces while the Brigade Combat Team is forcing its main objective. A single medium cavalry troop can be cross attached to a rifle battalion to provide reconnaissance by fire or early warning of enemy movement in the defense.
