Within a few years of their individual establishments and the completion of their main rights-of-way, the Highlands and Coastal railroad and RailGo Transportation Services decided to combine high-revenue portions of their networks into a Joint Operating Partnership. Under the GEAR 1 Federation Law, they each own an equal stake in the JOP, which is essentially a way of avoiding cross-network tariffs when transporting cargoes from one network to the other. This long-term partnership benefits both companies by lowering their overhead costs and opens up destinations on both networks to either railroad, allowing for more efficient services. Other large carriers are considering opening up partnerships in the same manner unless the interline tariff regulations begin to change and close the loophole enjoyed by the current HICX and RGOX JOP.

Eagle Point Transportation was founded at Eagle Point City, on the GEAR 1 Oceanic Coast. It is a well-heeled regional carrier of goods and freight from the main port at Eagle Point to coastal and interior destinations, and interchanges with larger national railroads.

"Metro" as in "Subway" cars? (Pardon the vernacular - being from the US) I am considering it. I have a particular fondness for small Light Rail (or Tram) systems, just haven't spent much time researching or scanning diagrams yet.

I might venture forth into the 3-D aspect, even if simply making a "skin" out of my stuff that can be folded into a box. I have a background in engineering, but pixel art is way different. I've been using my 2-D printouts for wargaming a lot, since all it takes is a touch of imagination to realize what it is and what it's for... such as, a flatcar mounted M777 prime mover and gun versus an unloaded battery in battle position.

PS - I also mainly do the drawings for my "virtual railroad" on webpages. No room for huge train layouts in my basement, even though I tried to build a dual-purpose train/wargaming platform design that could fit in my basement.

Civilian 250-ton Railway Crane for moving cargo and derailment recovery. Painted in International Ports Authority corporation "Safety Stripes" pattern. Attached idler flat car allows the crane to be coupled to other cars without damage and is used to carry repair equipment for work in the field.


WIP - GEAR 1 Ground Forces (MTSX) 155mm M777 Railway Howitzer. Mating an M777 digitized howitzer system to the existing crane car body and removing crane equipment allowed a rail-borne battery of artillery to be developed. Idler flat cars are needed due to the length of the stowed gun barrel compared to the car length, and often carry ready ammunition. Although it is typical to position the railway cannons and erect stabilizers and bracing, the M777 is capable of limited firing on the move when mounted as a railway gun.

Long Heavy Manufacturing "Longarm" 200-ton telescoping crane system mounted to Federation standards on an Inter-Global Industries crane car. Painted in IPAX (International Ports Authority) Safety High Visibility paint scheme.


Longarm crane raised and partially extended for operation. Total boom length available is over 110 feet with a maximum angle of 75 degrees from the horizontal. With its much higher level of versatility, the Longarm is almost as prevalent on Gear 1 railway systems as the Inter-Global 250-ton railway crane car that came before. As older 250-tonners are retired or sold to the Army to convert into M777 artillery cars, new-build models may utilize a slightly modified Longarm crane system with up to 300-ton lifting capability.


Military Rail Transport Service MTSX heavy-duty flatcar with ASTRA X5000 mobile crane system, combining the Inter-Global Automotive ASTRA truck design with a non-articulated, nine-axle drive system (all 9 axles are powered, front four axles for steering) and the Longarm 200-ton lifting crane system and crane cabin derived from the original Inter-Global railway crane car. This vehicle has been procured by civilian vertical construction firms and the GEAR 1 Armed Forces Joint Corps of Engineers for heavy construction applications. (In a wartime area, ASTRA X5000's can also be used to offload cargo under expeditionary force conditions.)
