Adapted from scans I had lying around... Soon-to-be GEAR 1 F/A-18 (Smaller one is C-model, larger one is E-model Super Hornet) fighters after their markings and national colors are applied...

"Talk to me, Goose..."

"C'mon, Wolf, do some of that pixel art sh!t."

"Go get a new job... maybe like an ER doc."

I have a fondness for "old school" Robotech cartoons and the RPG... Thought it fitting that when I found a good drawing and in scale of the VAF6 Alpha Fighter, that I would put it in my GEAR 1 sandbox and play around with it.

Since the original design is from Robotech/Harmony Gold/etc. it goes no farther than being a WIP. (But I like the chocolate chip camo on it if this one was with a low-level attack squadron operating in the desert...)

A unit train on its way from the manufacturing center of GEAR 1 is departing to the Highlands along the HICX railway carrying a variety of Inter Global Automotive products for the military, police and civilians. Head end power comes from two Gravesend Class 1F fusion locomotives and the automobiles are a variety of IGACo Vector, Guardian and Rapid vehicles. (Some military Iltis jeeps are aboard as well).

EDIT - BBcode doesn't allow setting image scales like HTML when the image hosting service downscales the drawing. That being said, my images of the autoracks were shrunk by about 5% where they are hosted. Check this blog page (in HTML) to see the correct car proportions. http://gear1.drupalgardens.com/content/hicx-automobile-unit-train

Yes. The Robotech anime was based on transforming aircraft used by the human military to fight giant aliens.  Mobile suit gundam and their ilk came after.  Takara in Japan, the licensor of transformers toys, got the rights to the Robotech VF1S Macross super veritech fighter and sold it as "jet fire" from the cartoon. The vaf6 alpha fighter was from the third series of Robotech in the US but it came from a Japanese anime called Mospeada which was adapted into Robotech as the US knew it.

GEAR 1 MULE logistics UGV in Marine Sea Camo pattern loaded with an injured Marine and a rear area Medical Corps Nurse waiting to depart from a casualty collecting point for the Marine Brigade Combat Team's medical support area. The UGV would be later loaded with tactical supplies and ammunition, to be sent back to the field unit without a driver aboard, self-navigating based on a programmed route of movement.

GEAR 1 Hybrid Close Combat Vehicle Light (two Variants)

The hull and powertrain of the fusion-electric drive powered HCCV-L are based on a design which found its way into a separate successful Unmanned Ground Vehicle design, the RMGS (Robotic Mobile Gun System) Mark 1.

Compared to the RMGS Mk. 1, the hull has seven standard metal alloy road wheels like a traditional tank, where on the HCCV-L, the five main road wheels were replaced by a new composite design incorporating an alloy core and a flexible tire-like structure, plus a highly-sprung suspension. Combining the suspension and the natural malleability of the Kevlar and alloy mesh layered "tires", the HCCV-L has both high speed and improved cross country performance.

The experimental HCCV-L was fitted with a surplus M1A2G1 Abrams main battle tank turret, incorporating a next-generation "squeezebore" kinetic energy weapon. The standard M256, 120mm barrel was lined with a thermoresistant layer and 40mm barrel for the smaller-caliber KE penetrator dart. It fires darts encased in a highly efficient, fully-consumed explosive propellant, and can defeat all conventional armor except the advanced composite armor of the M1A2G1 and other GEAR 1 combat vehicles at ranges of up to 4 miles.

The production HCCV-L still uses a turret shape derived from the M1A2G1, replacing the 120mm M256 gun with a 150mm Squeezebore Railgun. It fires a three-inch (76.2mm) kinetic energy penetrator dart or high explosive "molten metal" thermo-kinetic armor penetrator out to six miles. The muzzle velocity of the round and flight accuracy is achieved with a long barrel and the railgun coil inside the thick lining which fires a directed energy pulse to accelerate the round after burning the propellant.

The Squeezebore and Squeezebore-Railgun weapons systems are highly experimental, providing features such as increased range and accuracy, plus highly improved fire on the move capability due to very low recoil, but it is assumed that successful fielding of the RMGS/HCCV-L automotive components and hull will continue independent of the development of the primary turret weapons, allowing the fitment of multiple turret and weapon options to the lighter, faster vehicle. Plans for the armed forces include transitioning the Armored Cavalry and select rapid movement units with the HCCV-L platform in their TO&E in place of traditional tanks and cavalry fighting vehicles. Some units may reduce manpower and trade their manned mounts for RMGS Mark 1 UGV's.

Sapper Route Clearance Vehicle "Sniffer"
« Reply #102 on: November 23, 2013, 11:24:12 pm »

The Sniffer vehicle was adapted from the standard GEAR 1 Rough Terrain Forklift used by expeditionary supply units for loading and unloading cargo. Modified with a ground raking array and a large set of panels containing a ground penetrating radar, the Sniffer is used to sweep convoy routes and landing zones for buried mines and IED's prior to a sapper unit removing or detonating them. To improve the survivability of the driver, the Sniffer can also be fitted with an RPG cage.
